I was supposed to visit him today but he has a cold. However the doctors seem to be backing off the 2-3 week prognosis so he may live longer.

Saw him today. He's very weak but able to talk, smile and eat. They're holding a vigil for him Friday night.

He's in the hospital now, even though the plan was for him to die at home, not sure what they're doing.

My wife visited him Thursday. He was sitting in a recliner, spoke on occasion and still eats occasionally. He was supposed to start hospice care but that has been delayed. He even attended the Veteran's Day service Wednesday!
I can't believe what she told me next. The church board voted to retire him in January with no pension. They're also retiring the assistant pastor (his 82-year-old father-in-law, who left a very successful pastorate he had founded 25 years ago to help the church after a fire had left them drifting.)
This man founded the church when he was fresh out of Bible school 43 years ago and this is how it's going to end.

I know what you mean, but thank God we know it's not really the end.

My wife spoke to him today. He has improved to the point where he can feed himself and go to the bathroom on his own. The doctors have not seen such improvement in anyone they had given up on.

That is good news 5555, although there is a far better place waiting for him. I believe that every day we are given serves some purpose, either for ourselves, or others, or both. I'm sure you do too.

    God bless

The latest mri shows no cancer cells at all, just a mass of unidentifiable tissue where the tumor used to be. The doctors are stumped but they're canceling his hospice care.
Meanwhile the annual letter from the assistant pastor said he'll be retiring at the end of January. Reading between the lines it looks like he still wants to teach and preach somewhere. Can anyone use an 82-year-old assistant pastor who has founded several churches in a 6o-year career in the ministry? No one comes cheaper.

He now has blood clots in his leg and they can't give him blood thinners because of his other problems.
