Default Are we really ready to invade North Korea?

The U.S. is reportedly ready to launch a preemptive strike against North Korea if officials believe Pyongyang is going to go through with a nuclear weapons test.

Citing multiple senior U.S. intelligence officials, NBC News reported Thursday that the U.S. is prepared to launch the strike against North Korea with conventional weapons.

Officials said a nuclear test could come as soon as this weekend, according to NBC.

The U.S. has two destroyers that can shoot Tomahawk cruse missiles in the area, according to the network. One of the destroyers is located 300 miles from the North Korean nuclear test site.

There are also American heavy bombers located in Guam. Earlier this week, it was reported that the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier strike group was headed to that area.

In a statement Thursday, North Korea issued a warning to the U.S. — should it take action — of a "merciless retaliatory strike."

"By relentlessly bringing in a number of strategic nuclear assets to the Korean peninsula, the US is gravely threatening the peace and safety and driving the situation to the brink of a nuclear war," North Korea's statement said.

South Korea foreign minister Yun Byung said U.S. officials have "repeatedly reaffirmed that" the U.S. "will closely discuss with South Korea its North Korea-related measures."

"In fact, the U.S. is working to reassure us that it will not, just in case that we might hold such concerns."

President Trump on Thursday tweeted that he has "great confidence that China will properly deal with North Korea."

"If they are unable to do so, the U.S., with its allies, will! USA," the president tweeted.

Any retaliation will undoubtedly come upon our friends in South Korea with their capital, Soul, situated not far from the demilitarized zone they could get the brunt of the North's anger. Millions of civilians sitting there well within range of the North's guns. And there is no amount of cruise missiles which will prevent such an onslaught.
Trump's obvious lies make it impossible to believe anything he says that might be true. His presidency is falling apart fast.

I wouldn't be so sure about that....really just need one.

The Kim family and a "stable" communist dictatorship on China's southern border has been useful for China. If China believes that the Kim family no longer serves China's purposes...well...regime change will come quickly.

Is the Kim family stupid enough not to have a bomb shelter they can get to on an instant's notice? One filled with the finest food and wine? I don't know for sure but I would put the chances of a single bomb killing them all at near zero.

you really only need to kill one.....the Phat Un....

and yes, they likely have several bomb shelters....but unless they have teleportation, there's no way he can get there "in an instant".

I would -and so should you (you are smarter than you post here).
Soul is 30 miles from North Korea (2- minute warning of utter anialation).

FACT is NK is NOT Syria.

if Cheeto Bennitto is dumb enough to play the same cruise missile game with NK that he did with Syria, you will have to kiss 2-million people/Soul goodbye.

    dems the facts bubba.

Well not quite, Korea is definitely next to the Northern part of China, but the border between them (at the Yalu river) is oriented from southwest to Northeast.
